A Letter to Our Customers

West Knox Utility District will be launching an extensive Water Meter Replacement Project beginning August 1st, 2024, in a continued effort to ensure the most efficient reporting of water usage data. This changeover comes as an original grouping of 18,000 AMR meters (automated meter reading) are nearing the end of their battery life expectancy. To ensure timely and reliable readings in the future, water meter replacement is vital for maintaining the accurate measurement of water as well as the trust of our customers.

Over the course of the next eight or nine months, West Knox Utility District will be installing new AMR water meters for both residential and commercial customers. This is an estimated timeline and is subject to change based on weather, as well as unforeseen circumstances. In addition to the Meter Replacement Project, the District will be simultaneously restructuring the billing cycles within our district to better maximize meter reading efficiency.

West Knox Utility District has contracted with Pedal Valves to perform the meter replacement project spanning the entire utility district. All employees and vehicles of both WKUD and Pedal Valves will be identifiable with the appropriate logo and I.D. Badge. It is anticipated that each water meter replacement will require approximately 15-20 minutes. Please be aware there is an expected water service interruption during this brief period. After the changeout is complete, the service technician will then reinstate the water service and ensure the new meter is working properly before leaving the property.

The cooperation of West Knox Utility District customers is essential to making this project a success. To help this be an easy transition for everyone, please see the requirements below needed by WKUD and Pedal Valves. Please keep in mind that no worker affiliated with this program should ask or have a need to enter your home. Notify West Knox Utility District immediately if asked to do so by an employee of WKUD or Pedal Valves.

•       All gates must be accessible/unlocked for WKUD serviceman or Pedal Valves employee.

•       All animals around/in conjunction with a water meter must be secured or placed in a safe area.

•       All meters must be accessible, meaning the water meter must not be covered up with mulch, plants, rocks, or any means which would camouflage or interfere with servicing a meter. (per WKUD policy manual p. 99).

The West Knox Utility District will provide an estimated monthly calendar providing the specific areas to be affected by the meter changeout, so that our customers will be given appropriate time to prepare as needed for this short-term outage. Please go to wkud.com for more information and FAQ’s regarding this project.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation with this project!
